The Festival of Speed is the largest car culture event in the world, bringing together cars, motorbikes, and super-speed machines at the West Sussex hillclimb course at Goodwood House. First held in 1993 as a means of bringing motor racing back to the Goodwood estate, it has since grown into a Nirvana for petrol heads and often features motor sport royalty such as F1 and MotoGP world champions.
Lasting three days, usually in late June or early July, the festival is always timed so that it does not clash with either the Formula 1 season or the Le Mans 24-hour race. It features everything from steam-powered carriages of the 19th century to the latest supercars, from rally cars to dragsters, and from F1 to superbikes. Everything takes a turn on the hill climb, to the delight of over 150,000 motoring enthusiasts.
With so many cars in evidence, finding a parking place can be virtually impossible - finding your car when it comes to leaving the event, even more so. Using coach hire makes the whole experience a lot less stressful.
